Packing (Or What Not To Take)

Packing is much on on our minds at the moment, as the time to leave approaches. We’re taking two 40 litre Osprey Fairpoint backpacks …

Doesn’t look very big, does it?

In theory they ought to be enough – we’re not going to be in a rush, but we want to travel light, as we’ll be moving about and the last thing we need is to be staggering around like pack mules, or dragging suitcases through the heat and dust.

As we’re heading to South East Asia, where it’ll be pretty warm for most of the time, we can focus on warm weather packing. The current clothes list looks like this:

  • 7 T-shirts /
  • 7 pairs of underwear
  • 1 long-sleeved shirt
  • 7 pairs of socks
  • 2 pairs of shorts
  • 1 pair long trousers
  • 1 baseball cap
  • 1 hoodie
  • 1 pair sunglasses
  • 2 pairs swimming shorts
  • 1 pair of trainers
  • 1 pair of Crocs
  • Wash kit.

And then the other stuff:

  • Surface Go 2 PC / tablet with keyboard
  • Kindle
  • Phone
  • Phone charger
  • Phone tripod
  • Medical kit.

Still comes to under 9 kg each.

I often take more than this away for a two day business trip so quite how this is supposed to last for three months is a bit of a mystery!
